Saint Seraphim of Sarov, a clairvoyant and wonderworker, the founder and patron of the Diveyevo Women’s Monastery, is one of the most revered Russian ascetics. He prayed for the salvation of Russia for a thousand days while living as a hermit on a rock. Like Saint Sergius of Radonezh, the Theotokos appeared to him during his life. The canonization of Saint Seraphim was particularly supported by Tsar Nicholas II, who personally carried the relics of the saint in 1903 during their transfer to the Dormition Cathedral, in a ceremony that gathered over one hundred thousand believers.
