The Holy Martyr Justin the Philosopher, a native of Samaria, loved the truth from his earliest youth and studied many branches of knowledge in Greek pagan schools. However, when a Christian elder, through a series of questions, led the learned philosopher and follower of Plato’s teachings to recognize their imperfection, Justin was truly astonished. He asked the elder where and what kind of teacher a person could find to guide him to the truth, if truth could not be found in Plato or the other philosophers.
After hearing about the prophets and the Risen Christ, and learning that God reveals Himself to those who seek Him through prayer and draw near to Him through love, Justin not only embraced this teaching but also preached it with true wisdom until the end of his life. He suffered martyrdom in the second half of the second century after the Nativity of Christ, leaving the Church of Christ many valuable writings filled with the Holy Spirit.
