The Church commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint George from Nicomedia to the city of Lydda in Palestine. This transfer was carried out in accordance with the saint’s own wish before his martyrdom, as he desired to rest in his homeland near his loved ones. During the reign of Emperor Constantine, pious Christians built a beautiful church dedicated to Saint George in Lydda. After the consecration of the church, his relics were placed there and preserved as a source of miracles.
