Saint Luke of Crimea, also known as the Military-Jasenić Bishop, was a contemporary of the great upheavals in Russia brought on by the October Revolution. Despite being an opponent of the godless regime, he defended the country from the Nazi plague and, after the victory, participated in its restoration. This versatile archbishop was also a doctor, writer, and scientist—holding both theological and medical doctorates. He was the only cleric to be awarded Stalin’s prize, even though he had been imprisoned in the Gulags.
