SAINT MARDARIJE OF LIBERTYVILLE

Saint Mardarije of Libertyville was an important Serbian bishop in America. He was born in 1889 1889 in Montenegro in the Ljješanska region, educated in the Russian Empire (graduating from the Kiev Theological Academy), and worked in America to preserve the Serbian faith and culture in the diaspora. Deeply devoted to the Church and faith, he provided great support to Serbian refugees during World War II. Saint Mardarije is remembered for his education and activities within the Serbian Church, often emphasizing the importance of unity and spiritual support. He was also a great humanitarian, helping endangered Serbian families and organizing various charitable efforts.
