Saint Petka, also known as Paraskeva in popular tradition, lived in the 11th century and asceticized in the Church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, where she was tonsured. She then journeyed through the Jordanian desert, and by the command of an angel, returned to her hometown, Epivti, where she passed away. Her holy relics were moved across various places, often hidden from the Turks. . They traveled from Constantinople through Trnovo, Vidin, Bursa, Wallachia, and Belgrade, eventually finding rest in the city of Iași, present-day Romania. Particularly revered among the Serbs, many Serbian families celebrate Saint Petka as their patron saint.
